Terms of Service

Last updated: April 11, 2026

Agreement to terms

By using SplitBite ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use SplitBite. These terms apply to all users, whether or not you have created an account.

What SplitBite is

SplitBite is a tool that helps groups of people split restaurant bills. It uses AI to read receipt images and lets each person claim the items they ordered. SplitBite is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to change, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time.

Your account

If you create an account, you are responsible for:

  • Keeping your password secure and confidential.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Providing accurate information when you sign up.
  • Notifying us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.

You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at getsplitbite@gmail.com.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use SplitBite to:

  • Upload images that are not receipts or that contain illegal content.
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or data.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or copy the Service.
  • Use automated tools to access the Service without our permission.

Receipt images and AI processing

When you scan a receipt, you grant SplitBite a temporary, limited license to send that image to our AI provider (Anthropic) for processing. You confirm that you have the right to photograph and upload the receipt. Receipt images are not stored by SplitBite after processing. You understand that AI processing may occasionally produce inaccurate results and agree to verify totals before making payments.

Session data

Session data — including items, prices, and who claimed what — is automatically deleted 48 hours after the session is created. SplitBite is not responsible for data loss after this period. Do not rely on SplitBite as a permanent record of financial transactions.

Financial responsibility

SplitBite calculates suggested amounts each person owes based on what they claimed. These are suggestions only. SplitBite does not process payments, transfer money, or guarantee the accuracy of any calculation. You and your group are responsible for settling payments among yourselves. SplitBite is not liable for any disputes between users regarding what is owed.

Intellectual property

SplitBite and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by SplitBite and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Service without our written permission. Your data remains yours — we claim no ownership over content you upload or create.

Disclaimer of warranties

SplitBite is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not warrant the accuracy of AI-generated receipt readings. Use of the Service is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SplitBite shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, financial disputes between users, or inaccurate receipt readings. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the past twelve months (which, as SplitBite is currently free, is zero).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SplitBite and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of another person.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to SplitBite at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these terms. You may stop using SplitBite at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability — will survive.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of SplitBite shall be resolved in the courts of Miami-Dade County, Florida.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated to account holders by email. Continued use of SplitBite after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
