The short version
SplitBite helps you split restaurant bills. We collect only what we need to make that work. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. Receipt images you scan are processed by AI and never stored. Session data is automatically deleted after 48 hours.
Who we are
SplitBite is a bill-splitting application operated by SplitBite ("we," "us," or "our"). You can reach us at getsplitbite@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
Account information
If you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and optionally your phone number. We use this to identify you, let you sign in, and save your split history. We do not share this with third parties for marketing purposes.
Receipt images
When you scan a receipt, the image is sent directly to Anthropic's AI (Claude) for processing. The image is used only to extract line items and prices. We do not store receipt images on our servers. Anthropic processes these images under their own privacy policy, which you can review at anthropic.com/privacy.
Session data
When you start or join a splitting session, we store the items, prices, and who claimed what. This data is automatically and permanently deleted 48 hours after the session is created. If you have an account, a summary of completed sessions (restaurant name, date, your share, total) is saved to your history indefinitely unless you delete it.
Usage data
We use Vercel Analytics to understand how the app is used in aggregate — things like which pages are visited and how often. This data is anonymized and cannot be linked back to individual users.
Third-party services we use
To operate SplitBite, we share data with the following trusted services. Each operates under their own privacy policy:
- Supabase
Stores your account information and session history.
- Anthropic (Claude)
Processes receipt images to extract items and prices.
- Vercel
Hosts the SplitBite application and provides analytics.
- Resend
Sends account confirmation and password reset emails.
- Google
Provides optional sign-in via Google OAuth.
What we do not do
- ✓We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
- ✓We do not show you advertisements.
- ✓We do not share your data with third parties for their marketing purposes.
- ✓We do not store receipt images.
- ✓We do not read or analyze your receipt data beyond extracting items and prices for your session.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- →Access the personal data we hold about you.
- →Correct inaccurate data via your Profile Settings.
- →Delete your account and all associated data by contacting us.
- →Export your session history data upon request.
- →Opt out of analytics by using a browser with tracking protection enabled.

Data retention
- •Session items, claims, and receipt data: deleted automatically after 48 hours.
- •Session summaries in your history: kept until you delete them or close your account.
- •Account information: kept until you request deletion.
- •Email logs: retained by Resend for up to 30 days.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your data. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Account passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We use Supabase's row-level security to ensure users can only access their own data. However, no system is completely secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to getsplitbite@gmail.com.
Children
SplitBite is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If changes are significant, we will notify account holders by email. Continued use of SplitBite after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
